Piloo Mody College of Architecture organized a training programme on “Research in Architecture”, in collaboration with COA-TRC, Bhubaneswar. The 5-day program was coordinated by Prof. Dr. Santosh Kumar Misra (Professor, PMCA, Dean Architecture, BPUT), and some eminent architects including Prof. Dr. Kajri Mishra (Professor & Dean, XUB, Bbsr), Prof. Dr. Abraham George (Professor, IIT Kharagpur), Dr. Janmejoy Gupta (Assistant Professor, BIT Mesra) and Prof. Dr. Madhumita Roy (JU, Kolkata) had made their graceful presence and engaged the participants into enlightening discussions, assignments, presentations, brainstorming debates and activities.
The Workshop aimed at informing the participants about the fundamentals of research, the different types of research, the basics of a PhD level research and the characteristics of a good architectural research work.
The five-day program began on 9th of April with the inaugural ceremony attended by our honourable guests, Ar. B R Nayak, President of COA, New Delhi and Prof S S Ray, Director of COA-TRC, Bhubaneswar. The first session was conducted by Prof. Dr. Santosh Kumar Misra who gave an Introduction to Research and discussed the Objectives and Motivation for Research. He was followed by Prof. Dr. Kajri Mishra who gave a presentation on Types of Research in Architecture and various aspects of Recent Advances in Architectural Research. The day concluded with a session by Dr. Antarin Chakraborty (Planning Consultant, Equity CELL, H & UD Department, Govt. Of Odisha).
The second day began with a talk by Prof. Dr. Madhumita Roy on Areas of Architectural Research, Types of Data Collection and Recent Advances in Architectural Research. Questionnaires, surveys and polls were explained and discussed by Prof. Sumantra Misra (Associate Professor, PMCA), who also gave an interesting demo presentation showing realtime and live questionnaire by which it is possible to get instant comments and data by online surveys through Google app.The session ended with a presentation by Prof. Dr. Kajri Mishra as she emphasized on different strategies and vocabularies for research - Qualitative and Quantitative Approaches and triangular method , by which two or more methods can be converged to get the interpretation of research.
Prof. Dr. Abraham George and Dr. Janmejoy Gupta conducted an interactive session on the third day, i.e. 11th of April, highlighting the Methods of dealing with findings and conclusions and Experimental Research in Architecture.
The fourth day continued with Research Proposal Presentation by Research Scholars, Site Visit to R & D Cell, ABIT to understand Experimental Research and Site Visit to a Vernacular Settlement to understand Thermal comfort Conditions.
The Training Programme concluded on 13th of April with sessions by Dr. Sudeshna Dutta Choudhury (Professor, KIIT University), Prof. Sumantra Misra , Dr. Leena Samantaray (Principal, ABIT) and Prof. Dharitri Das (Principal, PMCA).
The programme ended on a high note with a valedictory ceremony for the speakers and the participants.
